Markets and metal prices pulled back last week, driven by rising yields and a stronger US$, as resilient jobs data, and stronger business activity, raised concerns that the Fed could maintain a more hawkish stance. Higher oil prices supported energy stocks, but heightened inflation concerns. This week, we believe investors will focus on U.S. inflation, and employment data, for further clues on the Fed’s rate outlook.

FRC’s maiden Stock Pickers University Challenge launches October 1, co-sponsored by Cboe Canada, and open to undergraduate students across the U.S. and Canada.
More than 130 teams from 20 universities have already registered. Each team will manage a $1M virtual portfolio of 13 stocks, including one from each of the 11 GICS sectors, one Cboe Canada-listed company, and one FRC-covered company.
The competition runs from October 1 to December 31, 2026, with the top-performing team winning a US$5,000 cash prize, and a trip to Las Vegas. Participants are required to post videos explaining their investment ideas and trading decisions, while the best video earns US$1,000.
In the future, we will be launching additional competitions targeting students, financial advisors, and investment professionals, expanding the initiative beyond universities.
Participants will use FRC’s platform for stock screening and due diligence, leveraging our research, proprietary screening tools, and investment analysis capabilities.
