Equity markets declined last week amid concerns over technology valuations, and AI spending, while defensive sectors led gains, and mining-related commodities weakened. This week, we believe investors will focus on U.S. midterm elections, key economic data (including manufacturing activity and employment figures), and major technology earnings for signals on economic growth, and the outlook for AI investment.
Last week, our Top Picks portfolio returned -3.8% vs. -1.8% for the benchmark (TSXV). While underperforming over shorter periods (six months and less), our picks have outperformed over longer horizons (one year and beyond), demonstrating the strength of our stock selection methodology over the long term.
Last week, our Fair Value Model portfolio returned 0.2% vs. 0.3% for the benchmark (NYSE Equal Sector Weight/EQL). Despite outperforming in five sectors, declines in communication services, energy, and technology weighed on returns.

Arizona Gold & Silver Inc. – The Hidden Value the Market Has Yet to Discover: AZS's Philadelphia project hosts a potentially large-scale, multi-million-ounce gold-silver system, with only 2% of the property explored. Evolution Mining's $12M strategic investment, and our estimated 85% discount to peers, highlight the potential opportunity. AZS has also been added to our list of Top Picks.
Cango Inc. (NYSE: CANG) – A Bitcoin Mining Leader with an AI Growth Catalyst: A top-10 publicly traded Bitcoin miner, Cango is diversifying into AI computing, with initial AI revenue already commencing. We believe its established mining infrastructure, and early-stage AI opportunity, offer significant upside potential.
