The Wholesale segment supplies electricity to the national wholesale market, distributes gas and LPG to both wholesale and retail clients, and manages price risk through the use of electricity derivatives.
The Kupe segment is dedicated to the exploration, development, and production of natural gas, oil, and LPG, supplying these resources to the wholesale segment and providing light oil. Genesis Energy possesses a significant portfolio of generation assets, featuring the 953 MW Huntly power station.
Its extensive hydroelectric infrastructure includes the Tongariro Power Scheme (comprising three stations with a combined capacity of 361.8 MW), the Waikaremoana Power Scheme (three stations totaling 138 MW), and the Tekapo Power Scheme (190 MW). Additionally, the company operates the Hau Nui wind farm, which houses 15 wind turbines.
Founded in 1998, the company was initially known as Genesis Power Limited before adopting its current name, Genesis Energy Limited, in September 2013, and is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand.
