Global equity markets were down 0.4% last week (down 2.2% in the prior week) due to rising yields. Last week, the Bank of Canada raised its overnight lending rate by 0.5%. Elevated geopolitical tensions, weaker retail sales and higher unemployment data from China, and higher oil prices also impacted equity markets.
Valuations of gold producers were flat last week (up 3% previously); base metal producers were also flat (down 5% previously).
