Weekly Mining Commentary
Last week, global equity markets were down 0.4% on average (down 2.2% in the prior week), amid weaker economic data out of China, and higher than expected U.S. PPI (inflation). The market is expecting the Fed to maintain its rate at the upcoming meeting in September. We believe the Fed will be forced to slash rates within the next six months, amid escalating financial instability.

Updates from Resource Companies Under Coverage
Equity Metals Corporation / TSXV: EQTY
PR Title
Extends new mineralization; 7.7 m of 0.9 g/t Au, 57 g/t Ag, 1.4% Pb and 6.5% Zn (11.2 g/t AuEq or 445 g/t AgEq) at the Sveinson deposit, Silver Queen project, B.C.
FRC Opinion
Positive – Drilling continues to intercept significant gold and base-metal values, while extending the known mineralized area. We are expecting an updated resource estimate next year.
FRC Opinion
Negative – Q1 production was down 34% YoY, due to lower grades. We had anticipated production to remain flat YoY. SAM has been developing a higher-grade zone over the past few months. Management expects higher grades in the coming months, which could potentially offset the low production in Q1. On a positive note, SAM has indicated that it has identified an exploration property in the region. SAM has been actively seeking projects that can potentially supply feed for its underutilized processing plant.
PR Title
Identifies gravity anomalies at the Silverknife prospect area, northern B.C.
FRC Opinion
Positive – Geophysical surveys identified new targets, increasing the project’s resource potential. This project is located 1.1 km northwest of Coeur’s (NYSE: CDE) high-grade Silvertip mine.
FRC Opinion
Positive – STGX is focused on advancing exploration at its flagship Nagvaak project (Nunavut), which has potential for both nickel and graphite.
FRC Opinion
Positive – Revenue was up 50% QoQ, driven by higher gold sales. EPS improved from -$0.005 to $0.09. On average, revenue and EPS exceeded our estimates by 10%. We will produce an update report shortly.
FRC Opinion
Negative – Revenue was down 7% QoQ, driven by lower fertilizer prices. However, EPS improved, from -$0.001 to $0.003, due to lower operating expenses. On average, revenue and EPS were 40% lower than our estimates. We will produce an update report shortly. We are expecting positive news flow as the company is in advanced discussions for selling carbon credits. A third-party study has indicated that a tonne of Verde’s products can potentially extract 120 kg of carbon dioxide.

Key sector developments are listed below (mixed):
– A recent study by the Bank of Canada (BoC) highlighted that there are no material incentives for Canadians to adopt a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Per the BoC, Canadians are satisfied with existing payment methods, given 98% of Canadians have a bank account, and 87% have a credit card. Although we acknowledge this point, we believe the study failed to highlight the potential of CBDCs to lower transaction fees for consumers, and facilitate regulatory oversight of transactions to minimize fraud and criminal activities. Based on the findings of this study, we anticipate that Canada will temporarily halt its CBDC initiatives until competing private cryptos, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, gain more traction as viable alternative payment methods.
– Binance has submitted an application for operating a trading platform in Taiwan. Last month, Binance had announced that it obtained a license to operate in Dubai. Despite being under investigation by the U.S. SEC, Binance’s ability to expand its global presence is encouraging.
– Coinbase is enhancing its services for Canadians by introducing the Interac e-transfer feature, enabling instant fund deposits. We believe this is a promising development, as numerous competitors, both large and small, had exited Canada due to stringent regulations.
